The Many Different Types Of Food Processors

There are many different types of food processors to choose from. These versatile kitchen tools can save a lot of time and effort in the kitchen.

Types of Food Processors For Home Use

A food processor is basically a kitchen appliance utilized to facilitate repeated tasks in the processing of food. The various types of food processors are: Manual, electric and combination. There are some manual appliances also called “rice cookers”, but the term most often applies to an electrical-motor-powered appliance. All the three types have one common feature: All can produce excellent tasting food with relatively little effort. To achieve this, all the appliances utilize a slicing blade, chopping board or other sharp cutting device to slice, dice, knead and mix ingredients. They also all use some type of cooking medium such as oil, water, flour, salt, yeast, sugar, milk, or yogurt to help create the proper dough for rising inside the unit.

Manual food processors may have two or more rotating blades and may have a lid. Each blade will spin at a definite speed (usually about two rotations per second). As the food particles pass through the blades, they become rough and flaky and can be pushed out on the plate in one fell swoop. To help with getting all the ingredients ready for cooking, several of the blades will rotate at once, which is generally done by releasing the lid.

A Food Processor Is Not A Blender

Blenders are another common type of small kitchen appliances which are useful for blending dry ingredients. Blenders are much like choppers except that they have both a chopping board and a blender attached to the same unit. Blenders can be very expensive and must be maintained well in order to ensure maximum usage. When using a blender to make soups, sauces and other recipes where consistency and uniformity are important, it is important to monitor the mixture constantly in order to avoid large lumps and lumping.

Combination appliances are popular but not always efficient. They do most of the work of the various types of food processors, but usually come with their own bowl to house the dry ingredients. They often combine the chopping and spinning blades, as well as the blending ones. This makes them very efficient, especially when mixed with the motorized versions.

Fruits and vegetables also can be chopped with a hand-held version. Hand held food processors are useful for a number of different tasks, mainly for mincing and chopping (though they may also cut pasta and noodles). Some handhelds come with interchangeable blades for use with herbs, spices and nuts, which allow for even greater versatility. The most common use for these useful cooking utensils is for mincing, although they can also be useful for other tasks such as making a whipped cream mixture, or for grinding things such as meat, cheese or eggs. They also have attachments that allow you to grind dried fruits, nuts, leafy vegetables and more.

Lastly, there are food processors that have a grate in place. Grate is one of those words that just has to be mentioned when discussing the food processors. A grate is a thin piece of plastic or metal that is placed over the food item that you want to cook, in order to help the food processor cut through the tough outer skin. They can be used for many different things, from making soups and sauces, to mincing and chopping vegetables. The grate is usually small enough to fit on your hand, so it is very easy to incorporate the right type for whatever task you need it for.
